Manus x Virtual Pets: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Brought Tamagotchis to the 2016 Met Gala

It’s typically a really big deal when a couple decides to get a pet together — though in Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s case, the critter is digital.

As Fashionista points out, the PDA-friendly lovebirds both attended the Met Gala wearing a Tamagotchi clipped to their Prada getups. (For those in need of a refresher, Tamagotchis are keychain-size, egg-shaped electronic “pets” from Japan that were a must-have toy in the mid-’90s.)

Perry’s was rather discreet, hanging from her belt and peeking out from behind a tiny coin purse on her ornate gown, while Bloom’s was worn on the breast of his burgundy dinner jacket in place of a pocket square.

“That’s my tech contribution,” Perry said of her virtual pet, which appeared to be newly hatched and in need of having its toilet cleaned as she walked the carpet and took interviews. Though she did not pose for any photos with Bloom, he seemed just as taken with his critter, pointing it out to the press pit as he walked into the gala.

Here’s to their romance staying alive a whole lot longer than my own Tamagotchi ever did. RIP, little guy.
