During this year’s Polar Vortex, several celebs braved the arctic chill with open-toe heels and crop-tops. We can’t blame them—winning the Street Style wars is way more important than hypothermia, and hey, sometimes you’ve got to suffer for your art.

That’s why we have major respect for Liv Tyler, the actress and style icon who arrived at Stella McCartney’s resort preview on Monday night in a giant, heavy, gorgeous leopard-print coat from the designer’s Fall 2015 (read: not yet in stores) collection. It was nearly 75 degrees in New York.

“I am definitely warm in this coat,” Tyler told us, “because, let’s be real, it’s summer, and I’m wearing a giant coat. But when I first saw it, I was like, I really love that piece. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I already knew what I’d wear to this presentation [a slim-cut printed jumpsuit], so I felt really naughty, like I was indulging in asking for [the coat], too. But they sent it down to me anyway, and when it arrived, I fell even more in love with it. You know when you feel like you have to wear something? I know it’s June. I know it’s 80 degrees out. I know there’s no excuse for this, except that it’s beautiful and amazing and I’m determined to wear it.”

And Tyler offered another explanation for the madcap choice: “My brain isn’t working totally normally,” she laughed.  “I just had a baby, like four months ago.  So to be honest, I haven’t gotten out very much.”

Still, Tyler had a sensible—and eco-friendly—strategy for surviving in her chosen look. “I’m just going to keep going up to the bar with the same glass and asking for ice water.”

You can pre-order the same coat for $3,100 now, though since it’s slated to ship on August 31, you’ll have plenty of time for the weather to change… or at least to stock up on ice water.
