Would You Let Strangers Choose Your Outfit?

Shopping with friends is always more fun than doing it alone. But what about shopping with strangers? YouTuber Safiya Nygaard was clearly wondering the same thing in her latest video, I Let Strangers Pick My Outfit, in which she did exactly that.

She captioned the video: “I thought it would be a fun experiment to see what type of clothes strangers would style me in — and they did not disappoint!”

Known by her 2 million-plus subscribers as the girl with the all-black wardrobe, Nygaard has never been afraid of a fashion challenge. In a series called Wearing the Ugliest [item of clothing] in the World for a Week, the former BuzzFeed video producer tries out risky fashion looks, documenting her weekly outings and the reactions she receives on her channel. Her most recent mall outing might have been the riskiest, however.

The 12-minute video is broken into five parts, where the strangers whom Nygaard finds in the mall pick out her top, bottom, outerwear, shoes, and finally lipstick (to top off the whole look!). And, as expected, hilarity ensues. Not as expected, however, is the fact that the stranger-led shopping trip doesn’t turn out to be a complete disaster.

As she noted in the video: “None of the things are things I would have chosen for myself, but all together, they were pretty fun.”

At the end of the video, which has racked up nearly 1.7 million views, the YouTuber wraps up with final thoughts on her look — which turns out to be fairly unicorn-esque — as well as the people she met throughout the process. Our conclusion: This might be the best new way to shop.
