Actress Lauren London managed to keep her recent pregnancy a secret until she announced on Instagram in October 2016 that she had given birth to a baby boy with her fiancé, rapper Nipsey Hussle. She captioned the photo, “And then came You. Last week I gave birth to a beautiful healthy happy baby boy. Blessed. #motheroftwo #GodisGood#QueenLowkey.” London is also mom to 7-year-old son Cameron Carter, whose dad is rapper Lil Wayne.

On Monday, London looked healthy and happy at a Lakers game with Hussle. The couple was dressed in head-to-toe black, and London was clearly still carrying a bit of weight from her second pregnancy. Some social media critics felt six months was long enough to get back to “fighting weight,” and London took heat for appearing thicker than usual.

Shedding baby weight can be a hard thing for many women. And despite the glorification of celebrities who seem to drop excess pounds effortlessly (“It was all the breastfeeding!”), famous women are people, too. That means that despite their assumed easy access to dietitians and personal trainers, they too struggle to slim down after literally growing humans inside their bodies. 32-year-old London, as flawless as she often appears, is no exception.

Twitter users hiding behind their computer screens felt at liberty to lob insults at London such as, “Lauren London getting fat lol she still fine tho,” “I dissaprove of Lauren London getting fat..this can’t be happening,” and the unbelievably insensitive, “Lauren London looks fat asf, period. I understand she just had a baby but it doesn’t even seem like she’s attempting to lose the weight,” as if a photo bears any indication as to what London is doing in her spare time.

The tweets picked up speed on Tuesday, and eventually London became a trending topic. That’s when London’s defenders stepped up to the plate. “Y’all think Lauren London looks fat bc y’all don’t remember what normal women look like anymore,” one user wrote. Another tweeted, “Lauren London is trending because of weight gain? She is glowing. She looks happy and healthy. Can you look in the mirror and say the same?”. And then there was the obvious, “Y’all forgetting Lauren London just had a baby?”.

So what does science have to say about the average amount of time it takes a new mom to shed baby weight. According to WebMd, “Losing the baby weight can take upwards of a year. Ideally, you should take the weight off gradually, aiming for 1-2 pounds per week.” Sounds like London is right on track. But of course, she knows that.

The strong, private-yet-outspoken Baggage Claim actress has had the last say in the social media storm that erupted in the aftermath of her date-night photograph leak. She posted this message to naysayers on her Instagram late Tuesday:

“I’ve been getting compliments on my looks for years. I never let it “gas me” because I knew the enduring value in all things is internal. When I decided to have my son, I knew the internet would be cruel. I knew that casting directors would consider me out of commission for at least a year. I knew that my body would change, but I did not let the fear of these things effect [sic] me to the point of going against my spirit. I asked myself: would you rather be at conflict with yourself and at peace with the world? Or at peace with yourself and at conflict with the world? I chose the latter, at that moment I was ready for whatever came with it. This lil weight will get worked off and who I am will be uncompromised. Win-win, no? – LL THE GREAT.”

If that doesn’t silence the body shamers, perhaps her “revenge body” will — if she even chooses to work toward one, as she owes her critics nothing and clearly knows it.
