2016 has been a game-changing year for Lady Gaga. The talented songstress released her fifth studio album, Joanne, this Friday, after kicking off a dive bar tour to promote it earlier this month. She won a Golden Globe Award for her appearance as Countess Elizabeth in the fifth season of American Horror Story, taking her one step closer to that EGOT we’re sure is in her future. She also somehow made time, in the middle of it all, to return for the horror anthology’s sixth season, recurring as one of AHS: Roanoke‘s most talked-about and mysterious characters, Scathach. It was even announced that she’d be starring in the remake of A Star is Born, alongside Bradley Cooper.

We were obviously thrilled when we found out that Gaga would be appearing on October 22nd’s episode of SNL. It was her fourth time appearing on the show, but her last SNL appearance was way back in 2013. We were long overdue and impatiently awaiting Gaga’s return to the variety sketch show.

And, boy, did Gaga deliver – she gave two amazing performance on last night’s SNL.

Unlike her last 2013 appearance, where she took on the dual roles of host and musical guest, Gaga only performed on last night’s SNL, with Tom Hanks hosting the episode – his ninth time as a host. Though we would’ve loved to see her pop up in a sketch or two, her stunning musical performances wound up being more than enough for us.

First, she performed her new high-energy dance-pop song “A-Yo.”

Gaga seriously brought the energy with her performance, not missing a single note – or dropping her now-iconic pink hat – as she danced in time to the beat. The country pop-ish song is beyond catchy and seeing Gaga perform it live for the first time brought it to life for us. And that little mini floor-dance she did towards the end of the number? Classic.

For her second number, Gaga crooned her more low-key ballad “Million Reasons.”

The emotional number, which many have guessed was inspired by the singer’s heart-wrenching break-up with Taylor Kinney earlier this year, was a serious tear-jerker. The stripped-down and scaled-back performance started off with the singer playing the piano accompanied by a guitarist. She took off her hat and moved to a stool at one point, finishing off the very intimate rendition.

The two very different SNL performances just underscored what a versatile performer Gaga is. It was definitely a great night for Mother Monster.
