Kristen Stewart Crashed a Lesbian Wedding in Canada

A pair of brides welcomed a couple of A-list wedding crashers to their reception over the weekend: Kristen Stewart and model girlfriend Stella Maxwell, whose “celesbian” status earned them a spot on the dance floor, sans invitation.

“We got to be formally introduced before they came in and partied with us. We got a chance to shake her hand and shake Stella’s hand,” Kayleigh Jennings, who married Kirsten Jennings on Saturday in Winnipeg, Manitoba, told CBC News. “I actually wasn’t as starstruck as I thought I would be.”

Kayleigh and Kirsten could not be reached for comment by Yahoo Style. But according to their wedding website, the two met on Grand Cayman island while working together as bartenders in 2009. They reportedly tied the knot in a backyard ceremony in Winnipeg and then headed over to the restaurant Pizzeria Gusto for their reception, where proprietor Bobby Mottola soon approached the new spouses with a unique request.

“The owner came up to me, and he said, ‘Hey, is it OK if Kristen Stewart and her girlfriend, Stella [Maxwell], come and have a few drinks with you guys?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah, totally! Yeah, no problem. Um, who is that?'” Kayleigh told CBC.

Stewart had recently been in Winnipeg shooting the movie JT, the story of the literary hoax JT Leroy, co-starring Laura Dern, James Franco, and Diane Kruger, and told CBC that Mottola had helped her out at an event recently. Mottola did not respond to a request for comment from Yahoo Style, so it’s unclear how and why Stewart came to attend the wedding. But the brides were happy to accommodate.

“I told Kir, ‘Hey, let’s just treat them as random guests. Let’s just treat them with kindness — Southern hospitality. Winnipeg hospitality,’” said Kayleigh, who is from Oklahoma. The women reported that the two celebs were excellent guests who didn’t grandstand.

“They looked just like two normal girls. They look a little Hollywood, but if we didn’t know who they were, I don’t know if I would have known,” Kirsten noted. “We said, ‘Hey, you know, come on and meet your guests and, you know, don’t segregate yourselves. Come and party.” Stewart and Maxwell did just that, drinking, dancing, and making song requests, and staying from about 10 p.m. until 1 a.m., Kirsten said, adding, “There were only a few people who were starstruck. My Aunt Linda was extremely excited.”

The wedding’s DJ, K Chedda, aka Karli Colpitts, posted an image of the brides with Stewart on her Facebook page, adding, “Dj’ed a gorgeous wedding for these gals last night and Ms Kristen Stewart (twilight) even made an appearance! Hilarious and amazing night!” Colpitts tells Yahoo Style that Stewart “was a lovely guest and so we’re her friends,” and that she requested that Colpitts play “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys. “I played it and she thanked me and danced the night away,” she adds. “All very normal stuff”

Social media users were generally tickled by news of the wedding crashers.

At least one was confused.

Perhaps Stewart and Maxwell, who reportedly moved in together recently, were doing research for their own future nuptials? They have even, allegedly, adopted a dog.
