As if Krispy Kreme doughnuts weren't drool-worthy enough, the brand recently dropped a luxury—yes, luxury—version of the treat. And while Krispy Kreme may not be a company we typically associate with a luxurious lifestyle (a stuffing-your-face lifestyle might be more accurate), these doughnuts are definitely luxe. The catch? They're available only in Japan.
Since March 1, Japanese locations of the chain have been offering the luxury Krispy Kreme doughnuts in four flavors: Brulee Grated Cream, Green Tea Adzuki, Sakura, and Cafe Latte Bunny. Brulee Grated Cream will be available throughout the year, and the rest will be sold for a limited time.
Brulee Grated Cream features a light whipped cream sandwiched between two halves of a sweet brulee-glazed doughnut with a crispy bite. Green Tea Adzuki is a "Japanese-style doughnut," and its whipped cream center is infused with Uji matcha (finely ground green tea powder) and Hokkaido grain bean paste. Sakura, which means cherry blossoms in Japanese, "uses cherry paste and strawberry puree that are perfect for the spring season," and it combines "the sweetness of whipped cream and sweet vinegar sauce of strawberry puree" to create an exquisite taste. The Cafe Latte Bunny, whose doughnut hole is filled with an adorable bunny-shaped confection, is chocolate-glazed and topped with yummy roasted almonds. Look how adorable they are:
Sigh. If only doughnuts were a valid reason to book a flight to Japan. But don't fret—Krispy Kreme hasn't forgotten about the U.S. completely. The company recently offered pretty much the greatest doughnut-related sale ever—for three weeks in February, it was giving away a free original glazed doughnut with every order of its new coffee, Smooth blend. So for those of us who don't live in Japan, there's hope that Krispy Kreme will keep the delicious treats coming in new and inventive ways. Now BRB, we've got a major doughnut craving that needs satisfying ASAP.
