Multitasking Mama Kimora Lee Simmons Carried Her 4-Month-Old Son On Her Hip at Fashion Presentation

Kimora Lee Simmons has always been on-trend, and Friday was no exception. Instead of arriving at her studio with a Birkin bag, she came with an even more precious accessory: her new baby boy, Wolfe. And as we pointed out earlier, she isn’t the only one bringing kids to the shows — Alyssa Milano took Elizabella, age one, to Marissa Webb’s show and Snooki brought her son, Lorenzo to Paul Frank — but then again, they didn’t have to show their collection to the press with a four month old on their arm. But that’s exactly what Simmons did, and she even admitted to being late to her presentation because she was breast feeding. “There’s no rushing this,” she said with a laugh.

Not only did the motherly vibe infiltrate the space, but the clothes were good too. This was the first time that the Kimora Lee Simmons line was debuting at New York Fashion Week, and with its curve-friendly dresses and mix-and-match graphic separates, it’s actually better than good, it’s great. "It’s what I wanted to wear every day, but couldn’t find,” Simmons shrugs, “and it’s really been a job for me and my design team,” some of whom are rumored to come from Jason Wu’s award-winning studio.

Talk quickly turned to Simmons’s own youthful past when Karl Lagerfeld cast her in a Chanel campaign at age 13. “If I were to have a fashion fairy godfather, it would be him,” she says. “He joked to me that if he tried that now, it would be illegal,” she laughs, “and I totally understand why. The fact is, I was always a very well-behaved model. Really! I got my school work done. I graduated from high school. I always knew I would have a career in fashion beyond modeling.”

Would she let her four children do the same? “I don’t think they want to,” says Simmons with a laugh. “My two eldest daughters certainly have the genes for modeling, but they go to boarding school in Switzerland, far away from this world…they ski. They have friends from England, from Japan, from Dubai… they know things beyond Beverly Hills, beyond Los Angeles, and they’re very involved in school. Aoki is fifteen,” Simmons grins, “and wants to be an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.”
