When Kim Kardashian wanted to get inspired for the Met Ball, she “turned back time” to 1974 and honed in on the sheer Bob Mackie gown that Cher wore to the same party back in the day. While Mackie had a longstanding creative partnership Cher, Kardashian’s statement-making dress was created by Roberto Cavalli’s new creative director, Peter Dundas. And what a debut it was! The long-sleeve crystal dress featured a mermaid tail made out of white ostrich feathers.

Kim is not the only person in her family to grace the storied red carpet tonight. Her mom, Kris, arrived wearing a long, red belted Balmain dress while her sister Kendall arrived in a green crystalized creation by Francisco Costa’s Calvin Klein.

Perhaps knowing that tonight is the ladies night to shine, Kanye (perhaps the biggest fashion fan of them all) opted for all black.
