So long, butt-length extensions. Kim Kardashian has a new haircut that's fun, sassy, and cool, and a bunch of other things you might want someone to say about your hair. It's a blunt-cut mid-length style that has edge.

This sort of look is right in Kim's wheelhouse. She tends to favor sleek when it comes to her hair, and the cut itself was a great call by hairstylist Chris Appleton. It really shows off his skill—a cut like this shows every slightly off scissor stroke, so it requires a completely steady hand. We reached out to him to get the inspiration behind the change, and it sounds like it was a bit of a collaboration.

"Kim and I decided to change up her hair and go for a shorter blunt cut," he says. "I love this look. It's sexy but still dramatic as all of the hair is one length and has that super-sharp finish."

The secret to this look is to keep your hair really glossy and inhumanly sleek. His steps to styling it once it's been cut by a master:

1. Frizz is the enemy of sleek, so make sure you deep condition your hair before you start. He likes Colour Wow Security Conditioner, $22.

2. Once out of the shower, part your hair in the middle using the pointy end of a comb. Take your time here—you want the finish to be as clean as possible.

3. Work in hair oil for gloss and extra shine on wet hair and blow smooth, he says. He used the Dyson Super Sonic Dryer, $399. (One of our personal favorites for drying your hair in the blink of an eye.)

4. Iron with a flat iron, concentrating on keeping your ends poker-straight for a strong edge.
