Aretha Franklin Wore an Amazing Mink Coat to the Kennedy Center Honors

It was a busy Sunday night for President Barack Obama. Instead of catching up on Homeland (OMG, what’s going on with Quinn?!), he addressed the nation on Sunday night during primetime in regards to recent terror threats live from the White House’s Oval Office. But before that, he was all dressed up in a dashing tuxedo for the Kennedy Center Honors. Held at The Kennedy Center Hall of States in Washington, DC, he made a grand entrance for the celebration hand-in-hand with his lovely Oscar de la Renta-clad wife, First Lady Michelle Obama. “Tonight, we honor five artists who helped tell the story of the first American century through music, theater, and film — and by doing so, helped to shape it, helped to inspire it, helped to fortify our best instincts about ourselves,” he said, upon bestowing Carole King, George Lucas, Rita Moreno, Seiji Ozawa, and Cicely Tyson with the prestigious achievement award.

While the Obamas certainly stood out as one of the best-dressed couples there, they had some serious competition in Kerry Washington wearing Marchesa with her husband Nnamdi Asomugha; Laurence Fishburne and Gina Torres; and Mellody Hobson in a Valentino galaxy gown (a nod to her beau’s Star Wars, perhaps?) and George Lucas. Other fashionable attendees included Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in signature white fishnet gloves, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez wearing an amazing mixed media piece, Rosie Perez in a form-fitting black and gold brocade dress, and so many more.
