Katy Perry Wears White Pantsuit at 2017 Grammy Awards
Social media is abuzz after pop star Katy Perry‘s performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards. Wearing a white pantsuit from designer Tom Ford — with a Planned Parenthood logo on the lapel — the artist sang her new single, “Chained to the Rhythm,” live for the first time. She also wore a unique armband featuring the word “persist” and finished off her performance with a projection of the U.S. Constitution appearing behind her.
Many took to Twitter to comment on Perry’s obvious political statement, as she was a staunch supporter of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election and has spoken out against President Trump in the past. She was also spotted at the Women’s March on Washington in January.

The pantsuit became a symbol of support for Clinton throughout her presidential campaign, and many women across the nation wore pantsuits to the polls on Election Day in November. There was even a secret Facebook group created in October 2016 called Pantsuit Nation for supporters of Clinton to share stories and messages of support with one another. The outfit is now very widely associated with Clinton.
Some also suggested Perry’s armband was a symbol of support for Sen. Elizabeth Warren after recent comments Sen. Mitch McConnell made in calling for Warren to be silenced on the floor of the Senate.
After reading a letter from Coretta Scott King, which was perceived as Warren’s strategy of indirectly knocking the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions to become attorney general, McConnell spoke about his decision to silence Warren. “She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.”
Warren also tweeted, “Consider this MY warning: We won’t be silent. We will speak out. And we WILL persist.” The armband featuring a similar message was noticed by many viewers.
