Katy Perry Hilariously Responds to Those Ryan Phillippe Dating Rumors

Yesterday's weirdest bit of celebrity news was the rumor that Katy Perry and Ryan Phillippe were dating. Perry has been plagued with dating rumors for her entire career—and she just ended things with Orlando Bloom—so it's not surprising (though annoying) that people think she's on the manhunt again. What is strange, however, is who she's matched with: Phillippe. Have they even met? Does he know the words to Perry's deeply underrated song "Peacock"? Has she seen his career-defining performance in I Know What You Did Last Summer?
Phillippe's viral response to this rumor yesterday suggests no. "I AM NOT DATING KATY PERRY. BARELY KNOW HER. PLEASE STOP FLYING HELICOPTERS OVER MY HOUSE. SHE IS NOT HERE," the actor tweeted, effectively clearing up any speculation.
But because this is 2017, the Internet just wouldn't let the story die. A clever fan responded to Phillippe's tweet with, "THATS WHAT SOME1 WHO HAS KATY PERRY IN HIS BASEMENT WOULD SAY."
And this is when Katy Perry herself got involved. The "Circle the Drain" singer clearly thought this tweet was A-plus and decided to have a little fun of her own (while simultaneously shutting down the Phillippe dating rumors once and for all).
"Can u let me out of this basement pls?" Perry tweeted directly at Phillippe. And his response? Quick (and equally as hysterical). "Never," he wrote.
Perry and Phillippe's very funny conversation is how all celebrities should handle dating rumors, to be honest. Typically, these false stories are harmless and ludicrous, so why not have a laugh about them? Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. You could be doing more important things with your time, like listening to "Peacock" or watching I Know What You Did Last Summer (which is what we hope Perry and Phillippe are doing right now...together...in a basement).
