Kate Upton and Kate Middleton Are Actually Style Twins

By Josh Duboff

Though they share a first name, Kate Upton and Kate Middleton are like two characters from entirely different fictional universes. It’s almost impossible to imagine the two of them conversing or existing on the same plane. (Upton: “Do you like Sour Patch Kids?” Middleton: “Excuse me?”) But—and we don’t think we are overpromising here—you will be shocked, floored, and gasping for air when you take a look at the following assortment of images in which—dare we say it—Upton looks positively Middleton-esque. (Credit for this genius idea goes to glorious former VF.com deputy editor and Middleton junkie Sarah Ball.)

O.K., we’re going to start our journey with Middleton. This is a “classic,” straight-down-the-middle(ton) Kate ensemble: conservative dress in a primary color, topped with a semi-funky fascinator.

Now here’s Upton’s spin on the same look. Sure, she’s showing slightly more skin, but the color is pretty much exactly the same. And, most crucially, she’s rocking the fascinator as if she’s been wearing them her whole life. That steely grin says, “I can do Duchess, too, Duchess.”

Here’s Middleton in 2011, in a very business-casual cream jacket with a bombastic black hat. (When else are ya gonna use the word “bombastic” if not in a Kate Middleton slide show?)

You’re nodding your head right now, aren’t you? This is a very similar ensemble Kate Upton has going on here. Now, we didn’t see the bottom half of Middleton’s outfit, and it’s unlikely she was wearing a skirt of this tightness and length, but Upton is sporting a quite tasteful white top, and her hat is nearly identical to Middleton’s. Upton would not look out of place at tea with the Queen in this number!

This is Middleton at a wedding in 2009, when she was perhaps a tad more … adventurous in her sartorial choices.

And this is Kate Upton— with a horse(!)—in a hat that would make Kate and Pippa use the prayer-hands emoji.

Middleton—in a jaunty fedora—watching some kind of event. (As ever, when faced with a picture of Kate in an audience, we wonder how anyone in that crowd is focusing on whatever polo toss or egg run is happening on the field WHEN THEY ARE SITTING WITHIN YARDS OF KATE MIDDLETON!!)

Upton’s courtside look echoes Middleton’s quite noticeably, no? Fedora? Check. Dark outfit? Yep. Bemused expression, as though she has not a care in the world and life is full of fancy and wonder? Definitely.

No, your eyes are not deceiving you. This is Kate Middleton in a Russian-style fur hat. It should be no surprise that she appears to be the one person in the universe who can wear a giant fur hat without it looking as though it is wearing her.

And this, of course, is how Kate Upton handles winter wear.

It feels almost sacrilegious to write a “caption” for this one, but here is your iPhone wallpaper from 2011-2013 (a.k.a. Kate Middleton in her Alexander McQueen wedding dress).

Well, her veil is sort of similar … ?
