Justin Bieber’s Facial Hair Was Photoshopped Out

One would think following the Calvin Klein retouching debacle that any photo manipulation tools would stay far away from images of Justin Bieber. But for the cover of Hero, the magazine made the “Baby” singer’s facial hair magically disappear.

Shot by Hedi Slimane, the feature shows off Bieber’s bright blonde hair (pre dramatic chop—still waiting for that big reveal) and he’s wearing dog tag necklaces, black and white T-shirts, and showing off his many tattoos, including the Roman numerals beneath the collarbone, sleeve of ink, and “patience” on the left side of his neck. But those are all secondary to the 21-year-old’s meager mustache and chin hair.

But while the publication isn’t making any apologies—and it shouldn’t—Bieber certainly is. “It’s definitely hard having so many people judge you from a distance. Sometimes you just want to explain yourself, but then that’s giving into gossip and it makes things worse. It’s a tough line to walk,” he said in the accompanying interview. “I hope people felt the sincerity in my apologies. There are a lot of things that have happened in the last couple years that I’m not very proud of and I feel a responsibility to my fans and to the public who believe in me to make it right. I hope everyone believed it—because it was honest.”

Seems like the magazine could learn a lesson from Bieber’s truth-telling change of heart. But, let’s be real here, he does look so much better without the scruff.
