Julianne Hough On Her News-Making Hair, Judging DWTS & The One Dance She Won’t Do With Derek

When Julianne Hough dyed her hair pastel-pink for a few weeks in April, it made national news. Literally: it. was. everywhere. “It’s kind of sad…but kind of cool! People thought I was edgy and cool. People [were like], ‘She might be craaazy!”

But Hough is always trying out new things, whether switching from dance pro to judge on this season’s Dancing With The Stars; lifestyle blogging on her new Web site juliannehough.com; or going back to “old-school,” emoji-free dating rituals with new love, Washington Capitals player Brooks Laich. “He officially asked me to be his girlfriend on February 16th,” Hough says of her beau. “Like you do when you’re 15. There’s no texting, there’s no assuming. It’s like, ‘Will you be my girlfriend?’ ‘Heck ya!’”

In this episode of “I Yahoo’d Myself,” host Nick Axelrod also tries to get Hough to pick a favorite from the remaining DWTS contestants. “Rumer [Willis] is pretty phenomenal. She can do the scissor and look great doing it,” Hough says, declining to select just one favorite. “I like Rumer and Val…and Willow [Shields] and Mark and Robert [Herjavec] and Kym!” (The season finale is May 19 on ABC.)

When it comes to her own dancing, Hough is pretty much up for anything—just don’t ask her to rhumba with older brother Derek. “We have done [it] before,” the star recalls. “Everyone thought we were husband and wife at first. And then they found out we were brother and sister and they would scream, ‘That’s just wrong! Ewww!’”
