Police officers and stewards were forced to separate up to 20 players and staff from Manchester United and City after a huge fight emerged in the Old Trafford tunnel yesterday.

According to the Guardian, bottles and punches were thrown after the game (a 2-1 win for City), and Pep Guardioa's assistant Mikel Arteta was left with blood streaming down his face.

The bust-up was reportedly sparked by Jose Mourinho knocking on his opponents' dressing room door to tell the players to turn their music down. He soon became embroiled in a furious back-and-forth with Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, in which Mourinho accused the player of play-acting to waste time, before screaming in English: "You fucking show respect. Who are you?"

Romelu Lukaku was said to be heavily involved in the ensuing fracas, which one person described as something approaching a pub fight, and it is believed that the bust-up was of a far more serious nature than 2004's 'Battle of the Buffet', when Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas flung pizza at Alex Ferguson.

Manchester United players reportedly felt that the noise from City's dressing room was provocatively loud., and that the door was intentionally being left open. There were reports that Mourinho was hit by a plastic bottle and milk, before he stormed to referee Michael Oliver's room to complain about an incident during the match.
