John Mayer has had a tough time of it in the past decade. Not that he didn't bring it on himself, but he's ready for that comeback story. And I think the world is ready for it too.
But rather than reentering the spotlight, Mayer wants more out of life than success with his music.
In a new interview with The New York Times, Mayer opened up about his desire to start a family, and about his dating life post-Katy Perry, who he dated from 2012 to 2013.
"I wish there was somebody to throw me the 40th," Mayer said. He turned 40 this October. "I want the baby with the protective earphones [by the side of the stage]."
He also wants to settle down in a home, instead of living his life on the road out of a hotel. "I want to say, ‘We’ll take it.’… I’m right on time for my career, and I’m running late for my life."
Mayer is even trying to meet someone through a dating app, which he didn't name, but he said he hasn't gone out much from it.
"It’s just a lot of chatter. We all talk to the same people. There are very few people actually meeting up."
I think anyone who's been on a dating app knows that song and dance. It's oddly comforting to know it isn't any different for celebrities.
Still, reading this interview actually makes me sympathize with Mayer, whose life seems to be so lonely.
As well as staying out of the spotlight since his disastrous interviews with Playboy and Rolling Stone back in 2010, Mayer admitted he's also staying out of the dating scene. He notes that Perry was really his only relationship in that time.
Mayer has definitely had his fair share of turmoil, but maybe 2017 will be his year. Plus, Perry's recently back on the market... Just sayin'. I wouldn't be mad about it.
