John Legend's True Loves: Hammer Pants & Tom Ford Silk Robes

On Wednesday, H&M opened its largest store not only in New York, but in the entire world. So it was only fitting that the brand called upon big-time music man John Legend to celebrate such a grand occasion. Before a dapper-looking Legend, who was dressed head-to-toe in H&M, took to the stage, we helped warm up his vocal chords (or so we’d like to think) by asking him a few questions. Read on to find out about his penchant for “Hammer” pants and silk Tom Ford robes and whether or not he asks his model-wife Chrissy Teigen for style advice.

Yahoo Style: Why H&M?
John Legend: I thought it would be really cool to open the largest H&M in the world, here in New York. I’ve lived in New York for 15 years so this is my town and I’m excited to launch this really grand store.

YS: And you’ve come out and said you love black and only black. But you’re wearing white and blue!
JL: It’s summertime! I feel like I should wear something lighter and season appropriate.

YS: So what can we expect from you, style-wise, this summer then?
JL: I’m going on tour for a little bit so I need to figure out what I am going to wear. I have a stylist.

YS: What was it like wearing MC hammer pants on Lip Sync Battle?
JL: That was fun. That was one of my favorite performances ever. It was just completely in character so it felt good.

YS: And would you ever take those to the street?
JL: Probably not! (Laughs) It was fun for the stage though. Some things are made for the stage.

YS: And what about Chrissy? Do you like her red carpet ready or casual?
JL: Well I like both. It’s nice to get all dressed up and go on a nice date or to a big event but I love just hanging around the house.

YS: Does she ever ask you for style advice?
JL: Well she always wants me to love whatever outfit she’s wearing so she’ll ask me what I think, yes.

YS: You’re a couple that everyone aspires to be like. And you really put it all out there. But is there something you can share that most people don’t know about you guys?
JL: Whatever you don’t know is the stuff we don’t want you to know. (Laughs)

YS: Is there pressure, because you’re practically considered America’s perfect or favorite couple?
JL: There’s not really pressure. If people think we are perfect they need to understand that nobody is perfect. We know we are not perfect, we know we have our own troubles, arguments, and disagreements just like everybody else does. But part of what it means to get married is committing and knowing that you’re going to stay with each other through the ups and the down and hopefully we’ll be able to do that.

YS: I know Chrissy’s received a lot of flack for the comments she made about you while hosting the BBMAs. How did you feel about them?
JL: I thought she did a great job. I was so proud of her. There’s nothing to be offended by.

YS: Tell me about the robes that Chrissy buys for you. They’re Tom Ford!
JL: She bought be a black one, a gray one, and a brown one with polka dots. I like all of them. I’m like dad around the house. I like to walk around the house in my robe and socks.
