Jessica Alba is probably one of the most stylish people on the planet, so when she’s dishing fashion advice, we’re always listening. The mom of 8-year-old Honor and 4-year-old Haven told PeopleStyle how she still embraces her femininity but finds comfortable clothing options, at last Thursday’s dinner to celebrate her July InStyle cover.

“You really have to understand your body type,” she said. “Know what looks good on your body and then go from there.”

The Honest Company co-founder and star of the upcoming summer thriller Mechanic: Resurrection gravitates towards comfortable pieces that can be worn different ways by mixing and matching essential items in her closet.

“I love wearing soft pants. They’re like wearing pajamas!” she shared. Alba recommends pairing flowy bottoms with a tucked in T-shirt, cute flats and a long cardigan or blazer.

That’s not to say fashionista moms out there can’t pull out their sexy side every once in a while too. Alba said, “When you’re going out with your husband or a girl’s night, bring the pumps out. It’s important for moms to know they can still bring it. They can still have fun. They can put their red lipstick on. It’s important for you to feel like yourself again pre-baby.”

To complete her easy, breezy summer look, Alba opts for minimal makeup. And while she admits the less is more look can sometimes be “harder to achieve,” she’s mastered a few tricks of her own.

“I blend [Honest Beauty’s] Magic Balm into the creases by my eyes and smile lines. It buffs everything out and looks like you’re not wearing any makeup. Sometimes I even run it down the bridge of my nose when I want some light reflected there but don’t want to put on a highlighter,” she explained.

And her key to a subtle, barely there contour: cream products. Alba grabs a cream foundation or tinted moisturizer two shades darker than her skin and blends it out. “You really can’t make a mistake with it,” she said.
