Is Vera Wang Making Lady Gaga’s Wedding Dress?

It’s been a slow and steady evolution, Lady Gaga’s transformation from avant-garde fashion rebel to old Hollywood startlet, that is. Five years ago she was wearing meat, popping up on red carpets in giant eggs. In the past year, she has recorded an album with Tony Bennett and dressed like a goth Veronica Lake at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party. And now she’s allegedly turned to the most classic designer of all to make her wedding dress: Vera Wang.

Gaga told WWD that this dress—arguably the most important she’ll wear—needn’t please her. “It will be totally for Taylor. It’s all about my man. I haven’t really thought about anything specific yet but whatever it is, it will be totally for him.” (That doesn’t necessarily mean sexy though, Kinney started dating Gaga soon after the meat dress, when she was still in her artsy experimental phase.)

Plenty of other people have thought about it though (including us). The trade paper asked 36 designers, including Alber Elbaz, Karl Lagerfeld, and even H&M to sketch their ideal wedding dress for the pop star. Noticeably absent? Vera Wang.

A rep for Wang did not immediately respond to our request for comment.
