The Internet is determined to figure out the identities of the couple in this photo

A woman in Queensland, Australia, made a mysterious discovery behind one of the walls of her home, and now she’s turning to the Internet (as one does) to help her get to the bottom of things.

Vesna Bogdan’s family is demolishing their house at Broadbeach Waters on the Gold Coast. Inside one of the wall cavities, they found an old photograph of a young couple. A bottle of green perfume called Charlotte was situated right next to the photo. In all honesty, it looks a little like a love shrine.

Vesna is curious about the identity of the couple and how their photo got behind the wall of her home. Of course she is. We’re wondering the same thing. (We’re also placing bets that the girl in the picture is named Charlotte.) Two days ago, she posted a picture of the photo and the perfume bottle to Facebook searching for answers.

When the photo went viral, things got even more interesting. The comments section basically exploded into clues. A guy named Craig came forward and said he’s the young man in the picture. His friends and even his daughter agree that it’s him. But Craig has no clue about the girl in the photo, nor does he know how it ended up behind the wall of a house with a bottle of perfume. A woman named Jacque has come forward, saying she thinks it’s a picture of her and Craig, and she had some unpleasant things to say about him. Of course she doesn’t know anything about the house, the wall or the perfume. She says their friend Nathan might have lived in the house with them, or possibly a different house that has nothing to do with any of this, but Nathan is dead and can’t shed any light on the subject. Yet another woman named Helen chimed in and said she’s the girl in the photo. She doesn’t remember the guy, but says he was just a friend. As far as the house and the wall and perfume, she’s just as confused as everyone else.

The owner of the house swears Craig isn’t the guy in the photo (for a variety of reasons). None of the people who claim to be in the picture could identify the house where it was found. Now commenters are doing a deep dive into the designer of the sweater that the dude in the photo is wearing. (Which we have to admit is a pretty cool sweater. Just saying.)

The plaster in the wall might hold the strongest clue of all. The initials M and B and the name Monica were found in the gyprock. Now we’re thinking the girl in the picture has got to be Monica. Surely the guy is “B.” But who the heck is Charlotte?

So. Many. Questions.
