Hillary Clinton Aide Huma Abedin Jacked Kate Middleton’s Style at the #DemDebate

That’s Huma Abedin in the red and white dress.

The first Democratic debate only wrapped about about 14 hours ago, but already, it’s been covered to death. So let’s talk about something #demdebate related, that has absolutely nothing to do with Hillary Clinton’s “damn emails”: The fact that her right-hand lady, Huma Abedin, wore the (almost) same exact dress as Kate Middleton!

It’s important, OK??

Our story begins way back in 2014, when the Duchess of Cambridge sported a white sheath dress by her fav designer, L.K. Bennett, during her visit to Australia with Princes William and George. A blue poppy flower motif, focused around the waist of the frock, made it an especially-flattering choice. And, in typical K-Mid form, it was tailored to perfection and beyond apropos for the occasion.

Are you still with me? I’ll slow down if you need.

Alright. So then, on Tuesday, Clinton aide Abedin—a woman with equally lustrous hair as Middleton, and the fashion panache to match—was seen several hours before the Las Vegas debate wearing the very same L.K. Bennet “Lasa” dress. The only difference was that Abedin’s version was covered in red poppies instead of blue—a somewhat curious (though, frankly, innocuous) choice, considering, politically, red is the color associated with Republicans, and blue, Democrats.

But… whatever. Girl looked good.

So how ought we interpret this cross-Atlantic sartorial situation? It could just be a coincidence, but… that’s not much fun to think about. Another possibility is that, when Clinton and Middleton hung out in New York last December, they ended up talking about modest dresses and matching pantsuits and K-Mid was like, “Hey, Hil! You know what’d make that Huma bird look well fit? This dress I wore in Aus. Lemme DM you the deets.” And Clinton was all, “Cheers, mate, yeah!” And the rest, as the French say, is l’histoire.

Then again, Kate Middleton can’t exactly claim ownership on the dress, either. Mindy Kaling wore it on an episode of The Mindy Project soon before Middleton did, and then this February, Orange Is the New Black actress Uzo Aduba wore an orange and pink version to an Essence luncheon. Meaning… it’s a pretty popular piece of clothing.

But personally, I prefer to believe that Kate Middleton is working a side hustle as Huma Abedin’s stylist (via Hillary Clinton). Seems plausible, no?
