Here's to You, Ms. Bacall

Lauren Bacall, arguably the most captivating actress of Hollywood’s most golden age, passed away yesterday at 89. “Her life speaks for itself,” her son, Stephen Bogart, told the New York Times. “She lived a wonderful life, a magical life.”

Bacall married mega-star Humphrey Bogart. She won awards for her performances, including a Golden Globe for ‘The Mirror Has Two Faces,’ and her overall contributions to entertainment, including a Cecil B. DeMille Award. She also won a National Book Award in 1980 for her first autobiography. The New York Times does smart work fleshing out the rest of her wonderful life.

Our memory of her is small but significant. Watching her gracefully slip from one side of the room to another in 'To Have and Have Not' and 'How To Marry A Millionaire,’ we learned what being a strong but seductive woman looked like. As we watched her pour a glass of whiskey and deliver a crafty line, we thought: "That’s what I want to be like."

Here are some photos of Bacall doing glamorous things that grown-ups do, in the most glamorous grown-up way possible.
