Gift Guide 2014 with Misterkrisp

Don’t let the name fool you; Misterkrisp is the mastermind of female New York City-based artist Jessica Siskin. A lover of food, pop culture, emojis, and ice cream, Siskin left her job in fashion after discovering that food coloring and Rice Krispie Treats were a match made in heaven. One Krispie cheeseburger and many experiments later, she launched a custom-order Rice Krispie Treat sculpture business, “because everything tastes better when it’s made of Rice Krispie Treat(s),” she says. “Except pizza.” Email requests to orders@misterkrisp.com.

What are your top 5 food-related gift ideas for the holidays?

1. I love Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, and they just introduced a Pint Club, where members get three pints delivered four times throughout the year. As far as I’m concerned, ice cream season is all year long, so this is perfect. Photo: Jeni’s

2. Speaking of gifts that you can enjoy beyond the holidays, I am obsessed with Murray’s Cheese. Their cheese of the month club is on my personal wish list. Photo: Murray’s Cheese

3. Another sweet treat is Fatty Sundays’ chocolate-covered pretzels. They come in all different flavors (including a Rice Krispie collaboration with Misterkrisp) and make for an excellent stocking stuffer. Photo: Fatty Sundays

4. When I worked in fashion, I always visited Neiman Marcus stores during the holiday season, where I fell in love with their chocolate covered Pringles and Bugles. They really have that salty-sweet thing covered, and the packaging is always beautiful. Photo: Neiman Marcus

5. Lastly, I love tequila and drink Casa Dragones whenever I get the chance. They’ll personalize a bottle for you, if you order online. It’s another gift that will hopefully last for a while. Photo: Casa Dragones

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
A few years ago, my grandma gave me a neon pink blanket that she knit for me herself. It’s really warm and guests always ask where I bought it.

What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?
I love to make photo books for my friends. Our pictures have become so digitalized that often they just live in our phones or on our computers, so it’s nice to have them in a more tangible object.

What are your plans for the holidays?
Each year I take a beach vacation with my family, and this year we’re going to Jamaica. My birthday falls between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, so I’m lucky to be able to celebrate somewhere warm.

What will be on your holiday dinner table this year?
My sister went to pastry school; she makes the best chocolate chip cookies, and I always bring a thematic Krispie design. One of my all-time favorite Misterkrisps is the tacky Christmas sweater I did last year, so I’ll probably do an updated version this year.

What’s a great last-minute gift?
A gift certificate for an experience is a great last-minute gift. I love the Momofuku Milk Bar ‘bake the book’ classes and tastingroom.com offers wine tasting packages that allow recipients to sample and rate mini bottles before receiving their gift of full-sized bottles of wine.
