Rocks are all the rage in rainbow hair color at the moment. Yes, rocks. Geode hair—a look in which some combination of iridescent or metallic pinks, blues, and/or greens fade in and out to mimic the look of crystals and minerals that line rock cavities—is starting to pop up on social media. The folks over at Refinery29 pinpoint the emerging trend to hair colorist Cherin Choi, but with all the love in the air for bright hues, you can bet we would have ended up here eventually somehow.

Of course, we've seen vivid hair colors like this before (see: phoenix hair, poison ivy hair, and hypercolor hair. What sets this style apart is the subtle fading of a few shimmering shades with areas that pull either lighter or darker or simply fade out completely to reveal your actual hair color. It's not a total reinvention of rainbow hair, just a fun twist on it. Bonus: If you happen to have a set of geode drink coasters, you'll match your decor.

Just remember: If your hair is dark, looks like these require lifting your hair with bleach first so the bright tones can really "pop." But for a trend this cool, it could very well be worth the extra step.
