FKA Twigs Strips Down for V Magazine

From L.A. to Art Basel, we’ve been seeing a lot of FKA twigs these days. Not that we mind. V Magazine has the R&B singer-songwriter-dancer (and girlfriend of Robert Pattinson) showing off more than usual in its new Music Issue (on stands January 15).

The British musician is a smart choice to kick off a new year as she ended 2014 on such a high note. Aside from forming a sexy alliance with everyone’s favorite vampiric actor, twigs has also saw her soulful debut album, LP1, shoot to the top of the charts. Proving her musical chops, she also landed on several “Best Album of the Year” lists, including at NPR, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and the Guardian.

For the cover and corresponding inside image, the singer appears heavily swathed in jewelry and not much else, but instead of looking like “just another half-naked” pop-star, twigs’ strength and character show through with her toned arms, taut tummy, and unapologetic gaze. The New Yorker’s Sasha-Frere Jones conducted the interview, and there are plenty of interesting bits about her work ethic, dance background, and how the being labeled as an “alternative R&B” singer is offensive. (“If I say ‘alternative red’ to you, it’s not red, is it? ‘Alternative R&B’ is patronizing to R&B. R&B is R&B it doesn’t need an alternative.”)

The mag does not stop with this petite powerhouse. The Music Issue is comprised of three more covers featuring Sam Smith, Tinashe, and Jessie Ware who receive equal billing alongside a tag line that declares each artist as “the new sound of soul.” If this what 2015 looks like, we’re all ears.
