Emma Roberts' New "Smoky Quartz" Hair Color Is the Prettiest Medium Brown With a Twist

Emma Roberts has darkened her hair to a deep auburn shade with a mauve undertone. It's a hue her colorist Nikki Lee of Nine Zero One Salon, who is known for loving to givie her hair colors names that sound like pets, is calling "smoky quartz." And so now we are, too.

For those who have been following along, Roberts has been on quite the hair journey over the past few months, going from bright blond to a warm strawberry color Lee calls...wait for it..."cayenne spice." We can only now assume it was a step on the way to this richer, darker shade.

According to Lee's Instagram caption, the switch is for an upcoming movie role. But it's not totally outside the actress's wheelhouse—Roberts, if you remember, had a brunette shade going for a while back in 2014, before her Scream Queens days.

What's really a marvel is how well every single hair color she's had has looked on her. (The shot above is a brightened version of her "cayenne spice" hue that she had the night of the Oscars.) Mystical hair color powers, this girl has. If only she'd share with the rest of us.

The darker tone defies the old "lighten up for spring" thing, and, well, who doesn't love a touch of the unexpected? As you know, we're all about breaking the so-called rules.
