Drake’s Many Instagram Loves, Explained

Drake. Drake, Drake, Drake. This guy. That guy! He just dropped More Life to much critical and popular fanfare, but for some of us, the playlist is filler between two Instagrams: the one with Jennifer Lopez back in December, and the one with iconic British singer Sade from Tuesday. What’s up between these two? many, many headlines asked about both. Drake!

Where Drake goes, rumors of dating follow. He cultivates the drama, not least of all with emotional lyrics like, “You're to blame for what we could have been” and “You’re not here and we both know why.” So too with these Instagrams. He knows what kind of power they have. This is probably why he’s posted photos with Rihanna.

He also posted photos of Serena Williams. He’s posted photos with Nicki Minaj. He posted a photo with Taylor Swift on his birthday.

He’s posted photos with Shania Twain, Madonna and Naomi Campbell. Not all of these posts lead to headlines that declare a new woman in Drake’s life, but he still annotates each with captions cryptic enough for followers to read something suggestive in them (sample caption, from the Swift 'gram: “Is that velvet?”).

Is he dating any of these ladies? Did he ever date any of these ladies? Who knows, really. Despite all the headlines they each inspire, there's never been outright confirmation from either party. He and Lopez didn’t pan out. Williams is engaged to the co-founder of Reddit. Rih hasn't appeared by his side in a long time. He and Minaj seem to have a solid work relationship.

Drake rarely discusses whether relationships beyond public flirtation should be taken seriously or not. It’s more likely he’s just like one of those nerdy sophomores trying to post as many pictures as possible with senior girls on Facebook. Maybe one of the senior girls kissed Drake at camp over the summer, but she forbade him from talking about it. Again, who knows if it ever amounted to anything? But he'll never stop trying. The evidence will be right there, on Instagram.
