Macy’s Fires Donald Trump

A lot of things happened when Donald Trump announced he was running for President of the United States on June 16th. Jon Stewart had an orgasm, millions of people had a good laugh, and Mexico was like, “Excuuuuse me?” During his rant announcement, the billionaire hinted at his potential immigration policy, “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.” He’s also promised he has a stellar plan for getting rid of ISIS, though he doesn’t want to share: “I do know what to do and I would know how to bring ISIS to the table or, beyond that, defeat ISIS very quickly…And I’m not gonna tell you what it is.”

The real question is, how have we lasted this long without Trump in the Oval Office?

On Monday, Trump revealed his most important policy plan yet. He told a crowd of supporters (huh?) in Iowa that if elected pres, he’d finally ditch his preposterous hairdo. “I would probably comb my hair back. Why? Because this thing is too hard to comb. I wouldn’t have time, because if I were in the White House, I’d be working my ass off.”

Unfortunately, such promises aren’t enough to endear him to the stable of brands, companies, and people he’s already offended. On Sunday, NBC severed ties with the Donald. The two jointly owned both the Miss America and Miss Universe pageants, and Trump hosted The Apprentice for over 10 years (the show will go on, without him). On Monday, Chicago’s 5 Rabbit Cerveceria said it will no longer brew beer for Trump Tower. And today, CNN reports that Macy’s has fired him. The department store released a statement:

“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.“

Just yesterday, a petition that was actually started way back in 2012 made new headlines, calling for the department store to tell off Trump. “Donald Trump does not reflect ‘the magic of Macy’s.’ We urge you to sever ties with him. Macy’s says it has a strong obligation to be ‘socially responsible’ and that 'actions speak louder than words.’ Indeed. It’s time to act,” reads the introduction on MoveOn.org. Trump’s stuck his name on everything from a Donald J. Trump Money Tie Tac to this Trump Home pitcher, and even starred in commercials for Macy’s over the years. But pretty much everything with his name on it is currently on sale on the website, so breaking ties with the man certainly won’t be the worst thing to happen to the already struggling retailer.
