Donald Trump Called Meryl Streep an 'Excellent' Actress in 2015
After Meryl Streep took him to task during her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, Donald Trump took to Twitter to call her "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood." But not so long ago, the president-elect actually had a very different opinion about the iconic star - in fact, he even once referred to her as one of two actresses he loves.
During a 2015 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Trump was asked to list off some of his favorite actors, and responded by expressing his adoration for "actors of the past" like Marlon Brando, Cary Grant, and Clark Gable. The publication then asked if there were any actresses in particular he loved.
"Julia Roberts is terrific, and many others," he responded. "Meryl Streep is excellent; she's a fine person, too. The problem is I'll name three or four or five and then the hundred that I know will be insulted, and I don't mean to insult them."
That's quite a change of tune from what he wrote about Meryl on Twitter this week, given that he attacked both her talent and her character in his tweets.

"groveling" when he totally changed a 16 year old story that he had written in order to make me look bad. Just more very dishonest media!

As Vanity Fair points out, Trump most definitely isn't the first person to call Meryl overrated, so she's probably no worse for wear after his Twitter tirade. In fact, the actress herself joked about how "overrated" she is in her 2004 Emmy acceptance speech for Angels in America.
"You know, there are some days when I myself think I'm overrated," she said. "But not today."
