Did Taraji P. Henson Need an Emmys Costume Change?

While we are always big fans of a quick costume change, sometimes it’s just unnecessary, and that’s exactly what we were thinking when Taraji P. Henson presented the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at Sunday night’s 68th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Don’t get us wrong — she was a showstopper in both numbers, but, if it’s not broke, why fix it? She graced the red carpet and sat in the audience for the first half of the show in a yellow custom Vera Wang Collection gown with a thigh-high slit, Lorraine Schwartz jewels, and Jimmy Choo heels. Her hair was styled in natural-looking waves that gave her a sultry just-showered look. She debuted an asymmetrical bob at last year’s Emmys.

Earlier in the day, the actress Instagrammed two personalized Edie Parker clutches with her initials written in glitter. She carried the tan version walking the carpet, so we’re assuming she was saving the bronze one for later.

That picture should have been our first indication that there would be a style switch at some point in the evening. When it came time to present the award, we almost didn’t recognize Henson as she stepped on the stage in a Vera Wang Collection long-sleeve bronze sequin gown with a plunging keyhole neckline and a jaw-dropping hair transformation — a straight, blunt bob with bangs. It had to be a wig, right? No one can flatiron that fast.

While we love a good showstopper, we’re kind of partial to Henson’s more natural look and yellow dress that complimented her skin tone so perfectly. But then again, this bronze goddess looks gorgeous in gold, and in anything for that matter.

We simply cannot decide, so we’ll let you weigh in. Do you think the Empire actress needed a costume change?
