The Hottest New Designer at #NYFW

When it comes to clothes, Josep Font is quite theatrical. With voluminous shapes, intricate embroidery, and impeccable tailoring, the former couturier has taken the Spanish label Delpozo, a young, unknown brand to the label to know amongst the fashion crowd. Here, the Madrid-based designer tell us on what he’s listening to and his inspiration for the spring 2015 collection.

What was your inspiration for this collection?
I took inspiration from Josef Albers “the interaction of color” and Nils Udo’s land art. For the embroidery detailing, I was influenced by the Blashka’s 19th century glass modeling of submarine life.

After one year you have become the must-see show. How does that make you feel?
It makes me work harder for the next season.

Your clothes are a mix of ready-to-wear and couture. Tell us about the process of designing?
We consider our brand to be a prêt-à-couture house. It involves extensive research in ideas, fabrics, colors and volumes. Our designs are as complex in the interiors as the exterior. They are handmade and our embroideries which are a core element of the brand, are done with several couture techniques.

You used to be an architect. How has that helped you in design?
It helped me understand the importance of proportion. It influences directly shape, color, volume for each piece I create.

What are some core Delpozo silhouettes?
Conical dresses and jackets are found throughout the collection, while some other pieces are focused more on geometrical and organic shapes inspired by Nils Udo. In many dresses, sleeves have been designed in the shape of petals.

Who is the woman that wears Delpozo?
The woman who wears Delpozo has a certain attitude, she recognizes and knows how to appreciate craftsmanship. She looks for unique and feminine pieces that set her apart.

What would you say the standout piece from the collection is?
I could not choose one over the rest, they all have hard work filled with passion behind them.
