Badgers, rejoice! You have a pretty cool Hufflepuff in your midst, though he might be a little unexpected: It’s Wade Wilson. AKA Deadpool. Yup.

Before you dismiss the idea, think about it. According to Pottermore, Hufflepuffs value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play. Though an antihero, Deadpool does, in his own weird way, exhibit these characteristics.

Think about the film: Wade Wilston is definitely hard working and patient – after all, he spends months tracking down Ajax, a task that employs both of those qualities. He’s also loyal – particularly to Vanessa. Finally, while he’s definitely someone who views everyone in league with Ajax as guilty by association and therefore okay to kill, he does have a strong sense of what’s fair, and is particularly upset about the injustices he’s faced.

However, even if you don’t agree, it’s Marvel canon now – yep, Nerdist has shared that he discovery that Wade Wilson is a Hufflepuff wasn’t just fan speculation.

It all began when Reddit user kittenghost1 found a visual clue from a flashback in the comics. The flashback shows Wade Wilson standing outside a bookstore with other Harry Potter fans, waiting to buy Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Wade and the others, many of whom are kids, are talking about the efforts they’ve gone through to avoid spoilers online. However, just then a car drives by, and one of its occupants yells out to the crowd the (spoiler alert in case you’ve spent the last decade spelunking at the ends of the earth or something) phrase, “Snape kills Dumbledore! Snape kills Dumbledore!”

Obviously, this is the biggest spoiler the book could contain; it’s a devastating thing to hear – in fact, the Merc with a Mouth can’t even come up with a witty retort and instead falls to his knees, screaming “Noooo!” And all this time, he’s been wearing Hufflepuff robes over his Deadpool costume.

Now, you may be thinking that that is simply a coincidence – but you’d be wrong. Nick Filardi, who was the colorist on the issue, said it was absolutely intentional; surprisingly, though, Wade Wilson almost belonged to a different house: Gryffindor.

Comment from discussion Deadpool is a Hufflepuff!.

Apparently, Filardi chose the house due to Deadpool’s bravery, but editors felt strongly that Wade Wilson was more a Hufflepuff – and we must say, we agree.
