IRWINDALE, Calif. (AP) — After more than 17 years as a couple, it took a stunned shout of "You're not married?!" for Christian Guntert and Susan Brown to start planning their wedding atop a Rose Parade float.
They will say "I do" on Saturday on the float that will be ridden two days later by the Rose Parade queen and her court.
The float will be festooned with thousands of flowers beneath a giant gold crown, which will serve as a makeshift altar for the ceremony.
The California couple were in their 11th year of decorating floats for the annual parade in Pasadena when a teenager in their "float family" expressed shock that they weren't married.
The shouted question last December set off events that will culminate with the wedding 17 years after the 50-somethings first struck up a conversation online and eventually fell in love.
