Karl Lagerfeld has been designing for Chanel for over three decades yet is still never short of ideas and inspirations.

This morning’s couture show saw the likes of It models Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid walk alongside more established faces including Arizona Muse, Mariacarla Boscono and Lindsey Wixson. Even a pink-haired Charlotte Free made a return to the mirrored runway.

The collection itself was inspired by a spoon. (It seems Karl is all too aware of the headlines this will create). Not a literal spoon but a 1920s sculpture by Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti. Entitled ‘Spoon Woman’, its effects could be clearly seen in the high-line waists that gave models legs for days.

As with all Chanel couture designs, lots of embellishments appeared in the form of fine feathers and exaggerated appliqués. While some gowns resembled a more vintage-style era, others (such as Bella Hadid’s halterneck dress-over-trousers design) were distinctly modern, demonstrating Lagerfeld’s prowess.

Belts were also a major addition, fastened at the top of the rib cage in an almost uncomfortable looking fashion.

The finale – which features the typical ‘couture bride’ – was made up of the house’s latest muse, Lily-Rose Depp. Dressed in a huge pink creation complete with puffball sleeves and that all-important belt, the 17-year-old is proving to be a true catwalk star in the making.
