Mulligan was back in black for a reception honoring Suffragette at the home of the British Consulate-General in L.A. on Sunday. But the British actress’s midi LBD was far from basic: At the bottom was a flouncy trumpet-style hem, a trend that has recently made a big return to the red carpet. On her left breast, Mulligan wore a poppy pin in remembrance of soldiers who died in World War I.

The upcoming film Suffragette, a drama focusing on the earliest members of the feminist movement, is all about strong women—and the red carpet tour that’s going along with it is no different.

Sartorially, stars Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, and Helena Bonham Carter are going all out this time around, bringing the high glamor in stunning dresses from Chanel, Marni, and more.
