If Cam Newton were a fashion blogger, he’d probably be a peacock. With his affinity for fur tails and Swarovski-encrusted loafers off the field and fancy Under Armour cleats and dance moves on it, there’s no denying that he uses fashion and swagger for attention (in his case, though, the superstar has athletic skills to back up his big ego). And on Sunday, the quarterback arrived in California ahead of Super Bowl L in typical flashy style.

Stepping off the plane at Mineta San Jose International Airport, the 26-year-old wore cropped Versace patterned pants with a black sweater and white collared shirt underneath. The Carolina Panther kept warm for the flight with a hooded leather jacket on top. His black and gold brogues matched with the Yellow Barocco Zebra Print Jeans (which are sold out but originally retailed for $849) and carried a small black travel bag with his initials, “CN,” monogrammed on it. Newton also attached a fur keychain to the bag, albeit a different one than he normally rocks (his other tail is more of a raccoon hair shade).

Mark Anthony Green, GQ magazine’s “style guy,” explained that Newton’s fashion sense is very comparable to how he plays. “I know that seems a little cliché, but it really, really is. It’s brash. It’s a little peacocky. It’s boastful, especially when he does his very preppy Southern thing as a Southern guy,” he said, according to ESPN.com. “But for the most part it’s pretty good. Everything fits good. He wears a suit better than any football player in the league.”

Green’s assessment apparently includes Newton’s competition during Sunday’s showdown at Levi’s Stadium, Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos. The 39-year-old opted for a more classic look than his younger counterpart, wearing a blue pinstriped suit with an orange tie and cognac leather loafers. He skipped the strain of toting a bag by wheeling his leather luggage. The experienced player, who will be the oldest quarterback to start a Super Bowl, showed some team spirit by representing the orange and blue in his formal wear.

So obviously in the battle of the fashion, Newton wins by a long shot. But who will take home the ring? That remains to be seen.
