Caitlyn Jenner Seems to Be Taking Style Notes From Her Daughters
Caitlyn Jenner stepped out in a tight pink minidress in Los Angeles, Calif., on Monday night. The star paired the Balmain-inspired bodycon piece with strappy python printed heels and minimal jewelry.
The look, which she wore for the premiere of Hacksaw Ridge where she chatted with the film’s star Mel Gibson, was strangely similar to the tight-fitting styles Jenner’s daughters have rocked on the red carpet in the past. With the dress’s cleavage-enhancing aesthetic and lace-up cutout detailing, it seemed like the 66-year-old could’ve been taking style notes from her daughters for the premiere.
The piece looked a lot like something Balmain, the French fashion house, featured in its recent runway show. The brand is a favorite of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters, which they’re often spotted in at award shows and public appearances. This is due largely to the fact that the company’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, maintains a close relationship with the family — especially Kim Kardashian. The designer even considers the mother-of-two his “ultimate muse.”
Since Caitlyn’s transition, her style has been compared to her famous daughters many times. Earlier this year, Kendall and Caitlyn even wore the same turtleneck dress to the Yeezy Season 3 launch in New York. The main difference between their looks was how they each accessorized the white, ripped dress, which was created by Kanye West’s YEEZY in collaboration with Balmain. Caitlyn opted for a longer skirt underneath it and styled her hair in loose waves, while Kendall showed off her long legs with tall knee-high boots and fastened her hair into a tight bun.
Whether Caitlyn is imitating her daughters’s style or simply inspired by it is up for interpretation, but it’s clear that she trusts their fashion judgement.
In 2015, she enlisted Kim’s help in styling her for the ESPY Awards. “She wanted advice on what to wear,” Kim told People. “She gave me three days and said, ‘Can you get me something?’ I looked online. I shopped all over.” The sleek white Atelier Versace dress the duo agreed on was an obvious hit, as it complemented her tall frame and looked flawless on her. Kim also admitted that she had to guide Caitlyn in the right direction while preparing for the event. “She wanted to accessorize it super crazy. I had to step in. I didn’t approve the shoes. We’ve got to get Caitlyn some new shoes. It’s hard out there,” Kim spilled.
