All things considered, 2016 was a rough year for many people. Especially for singer Céline Dion. Her beloved husband and manager passed away earlier in the year. And the anniversary of his death prompted Céline’s emotional tribute on social media this week. Besides losing a life partner, Céline lost her musical partner as well. Luckily, the singer is one tough cookie.

René Angélil was 73 when he passed away on January 14th, 2016. He left behind three children with Céline Dion, and three other children from a previous marriage.

While the news of his passing was tragic, the bond between Céline and her children grew stronger as they learned to support each other.

In addition to Céline Dion talking about her husband’s passing, she recently posted an emotional tribute on social media. The video shows behind-the-scenes moments with her late husband and their children.

While it feels heartbreaking to know how much this hurts for Céline, it is amazing to see how much clarity she finds through the darkness.

Un an déjà / A year has passed

Il y a un an, le 14 janvier 2016, René Angélil nous quittait. Son souvenir reste à jamais gravé dans nos cœurs. Today, January 14th, it’s been a year since René left us. He will always be in our hearts. -Team Céline ❤

Angélil lost his battle with throat cancer. He was diagnosed with the condition in 1998, but lived and monitored it for the next 18 years. Angélil lived his life to the fullest. He was surrounded by an adoring wife and their beautiful kids.

In a second post by Céline, she sings a beautiful a cappella tribute to her lost love. Good luck keeping a dry eye while listening and watching.

Mon coeur ne cesse de t’appeler. Encore plus souvent aujourd’hui, après un an... Je sais que tu m’entends. Et je t’entends aussi. Tu es ma vie. Pour toujours, Céline xx…My memory loves you, it asks about you all the time. Especially today… One year later, I wish R.I.P. meant Return If Possible. Forever yours, Céline xx…

When Céline Dion turned 19, she and Angélil wed and remained together for the next 20 years. He was the only man Céline kissed. As in ever. And that goes to show you that true love does exist. And as Céline’s children grow up, we will be witness to a strong woman handling a tragedy with grace and dignity.
