Beyoncé’s Grammys performance was legendary. It showed the star unabashedly pregnant with her twins, posed as a deity-like presence wearing all gold. And though it’s not likely that many will forget the impressive vocal skills and inventiveness of the performance — while Beyoncé barely moved on stage — now a fan has created another thing to help remember the night: a doll based on Bey’s look.
Featuring a pregnant belly, jewels, an elaborate headdress, and a long gold cape, the miniature created by Marcus Vinicius da Silva Bernardo is a dead-on representation of how Bey appeared in the video portion of her big night. What’s more, the doll isn’t just some static figure: with moveable joints, the mini Bey could easily be set into the various poses that its inspiration took the night of the Grammys. Bernardo got the smallest details right, like the fake belly piercing that Bey sported in her awards show appearance.
Bernardo, who goes by Marcus Baby, isn’t new to creating these custom, celebrity-inspired dolls. In the past he’s done recreations of Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Lady Gaga. The Brazilian took five days to create this Grammy-inspired figure, and while it isn’t for sale, it is one of 250 dolls total, three of which are of Beyoncé. All the dolls are customized from Mattel toys by the 47-year-old artist.
While the miniature’s outfit was created of gold “strass,” chains, and rings, Beyoncé’s real-life ensemble was designed by Peter Dundas as the announcement of his namesake line, which doesn’t yet have an official launch date. The choice for that look came from what Beyoncé saw as a divine coincidence.
According to the star’s stylist, Marni Senofonte, Dundas reached out to the team about working with the star in the future. During conversations, he revealed he was hoping to start a family with his longtime partner and have twins, not knowing that Beyoncé herself was pregnant with twins. When she heard, the “Lemonade” performer took the coincidence as a sign and decided to go with the former Roberto Cavalli designer.
