Ben Affleck Thanks Jennifer Garner for Her Support as He Sought Treatment for Alcoholism

Yesterday in a statement on Facebook, movie star/writer/director Ben Affleck revealed that he's recently completed a treatment program for alcohol addiction—something he's "dealt with in the past and will continue to confront." In his post, Affleck thanked his "co-parent Jen" (that's his wife, actress Jennifer Garner) for taking care of their family while he was in recovery.

While many sources are reporting that Affleck is "out of rehab," we don't yet know what type of program this post is referring to. It could have been inpatient or outpatient and might have involved a stint in a rehab facility...or not. Affleck previously checked himself into rehab in 2001.

The couple have three children together—Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel—and have been together since 2004. Married since 2005, it looked like they were headed for divorce after it was revealed that Affleck allegedly had an affair with the family's nanny. Amidst one of the few true Hollywood breakups of our modern age, Garner remained the picture of class. She said only positive things about Affleck in her interview with Vanity Fair and the paparazzi could only ever catch her doing one of two things: leaving the gym or hanging out with her kids.

Affleck, unfortunately, had a much more difficult time being single in the public eye. Ho often appeared miserable, attended a movie premiere with his zipper down, and seemed to be slurring his speech during a talk with Bill Simmons on HBO, which lead many to speculate that he was once again abusing alcohol.

Now, though, it seems like things are looking up. The Facebook post indicates that Affleck is getting the help he needs and that his priority remains his family. As he says, "I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step." What's more, People has reported that the divorce has been "called off."

And Affleck's gratitude for Garner is spot-on considering she has put up with, well, a lot. She deserves a good life and, if it's what she wants, a good marriage with Ben Affleck. Honestly, I just really want them to make it; I always thought they would. I also thought this about Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, so take my predictions seriously, OK?
