Two of our favorite outspoken celebs just demonstrated that conflicts can be handled with poise and grace in the age of social media.

In a recent Cosmopolitan interview, plus-size model Ashley Graham was frank about her disappointment regarding the controversy between comedian Amy Schumer and Glamour back in April. After Glamour included 35-year-old Schumer in its “Chic at Any Size” issue, Schumer slammed the mag on Instagram for lumping her in with the “plus-size” crowd.

“I can see both sides, but Amy talks about being a big girl in the industry,” 26-year-old Graham told Cosmo. “You thrive on being a big girl, but when you’re grouped in with us, you’re not happy about it? That, to me, felt like a double standard.” Graham, who embraces her curves but eschews the term “plus size,” added, “I’m giving curvy women a seat at a table that we’ve never been invited to before — a table with high-end fashion people who have never considered us beautiful.”

Schumer responded online, defusing the situation with Graham on Twitter. “I totally understand Ashley’s feelings. I don’t group myself in with her because she is unbelievably beautiful. Nothing but respect for her,” said the Inside Amy Schumer star, who has built a loyal fan base with the funny and compassionate ways she takes on social issues both on and off screen.

Graham extended an olive branch back to Schumer by tweeting, “I have the greatest respect for @amyschumer! So glad to be able to exchange thoughts, ideas & opinions w/ another incredible female force.” Fans were loving the fact that two strong, empowered women could disagree but were mature enough to respect each other’s feelings on a social platform that typically sparks ugly, headline-making feuds. One user even joked, “You’re doing Twitter wrong. You’re supposed to insult each other.”

Back in April, Schumer took Glamour to task for implying that she’s plus size. “I think there’s nothing wrong with being plus size. Beautiful healthy women. Plus size is considered size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8…Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size? What are your thoughts? Mine are not cool glamour not glamourous.”

Some people found it ironic, since Schumer’s relatable schtick often involves making light of the fact that she’s not a stick figure, but rather a real woman with a real body who happens to be in the spotlight. And Graham, the first plus-size model to grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, is no stranger to the body-confidence dialogue either. In fact, the size 14 bombshell told People that she literally talks to her own curves to boost her self-esteem!

“I still have mornings I wake up and feel fat or I feel my cellulite is really kicking that day,” she said. “I have to look myself in the mirror, and I take my own advice and I talk to those different parts.”

Together, these two fierce females are a force to be reckoned with. If only all public conflicts could be handled with such confidence and class.
