Prime Your Canvas

For a radiant look, New York makeup artist Daniel Martin starts with a moisturizing or brightening maskbefore applying base. Then he follows with a water-based foundation to create a dewy finish. Try Garnier Skin Renew mask and Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation, Martin’s fave!

Up Your Lash Game
The right falsies make your eyes look bigger and more defined — especially in pictures. Using individual lashes is key, says makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor, who works with Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Wilde. “Alternate different lengths to mimic natural ones,” he says. His secret weapon: Kre-at Beauty’s individual-lash kit, which comes with three lengths.

Perfect Your Brows
Makeup artist Nick Barose, who has prettied up Lupita Nyong’o and Beyoncé, fills in brows with a fine-tipped Lancöme pencil, then swipes on a waterproof gel from Make Up for Ever to keep hairs in place, reapplying it hallway through long events.

Kiss-Proof Those Lips
Both brides and A-listers have better things to worry about than lipstick touchups, so Martin will often use a longer-lasting stain. Try a
CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain for a lightweight, goop-free color that holds strong through countless champagne sips.

Layer Your Blush
Makeup artist Kayleen McAdams who works with Sofia Vergara and Jessica Biel, blends cream blush on the apples of the cheeks, then sweeps a similar powder blush over it. Try the CK One blush duo with cream and powder.

Pick the Right Powder
Remember that shot of Angelina Jolie at a movie premiere last year with white splotches on her face? Avoid her fate by skipping anything labeled “high definition,” says Martin. “That’s made for video, but flash photography can cause the powder’s silica to appear bright white.” Instead, choose one that’s a hint more yellow than your skin to add warmth.

Keep Your Makeup in Place
To stop foundation from doing a disappearing act, spritz a setting spray over your makeup. Our pros couldn’t stop raving about the one by Urban Decay. “It’s like hairspray for your face,” says Martin. “I used it on Jessica Alba when we were shooting on the beach, in the humidity and salt spray — and her makeup didn’t budge!”
