5 Fresh Shirt Jackets Made for Transitional Weather

By Megan Gustashaw.

If you live in a climate that frequently dips down to "f*&!, that's cold" temperatures you probably own a shirt jacket or two. And it's probably done in some kind of rugged check or earthy color like rust or olive. For a change of pace and a look that works beyond the lumberyard, we dig model John Swiatek's modern take on the staple. We spotted him at Fashion Week in one that was rendered in a pale lavender color, layered up with the same ultra-masculine staples—a safety orange beanie, tweed trousers, and a puffer coat—you would normally wear with the cold-weather staple. The unexpected color was a breath of fresh air, and the nothing-to-see-here styling kept it from feeling like a gag.

If you dig this look, you're in luck. Washed out, grayed out shades of pink and purple are all over shelves right now, including on the kind of liner jackets, work shirts, and shirt jackets that'll help you recreate this vibe in your own wardrobe. Pick one up, then layer a denim jacket or nylon bomber overtop, and you'll look a little bit like Swiatek here—and less like every other dude you know.
