This story is part of a new Yahoo Travel series, #StressFreeTravel, dedicated to making travel better in every way possible.

Checking a bag is such a hassle these days, and unless you’re taking a long international trip, carrying on is the way to go.

So if you only want to bring a carry-on, and need to pack a lot of stuff in a small bag, follow these tips

The roller suitcase

Before you pack your belongings, lay out all of the items one-by-one. Once you have them sorted, group them into outfits so that you can see your options and get a feel for your trip.

The hand luggage

Pack toiletries in clutches so you have purse options. Be sure to pack a pair of shoes to slip into when you arrive, and if you pack books, make sure they are paperback.

Travel outfit

The thing about flying is that you have to look fly….but your look can also be functional.

Wear two jackets, so you have layers for warmth, jacket options to wear, and extra room in your roller. Wear your chunkiest shoes, so you don’t have to pack them.

And finally, bring a neck scarf that you can wear as an eye mask if you want to catch some zzz’s.
