Kacey Musgraves is a big star in the country music world, but her notoriety permeated passed the genre Wednesday night when the singer hit the red carpet at the 48th annual Country Music Awards rocking a larger-than-life ‘do. The tools used to make the 26-year-old country singer’s Tracy Turnblad tresses in tact may forever be a mystery (Was it a bump-it? 20 bottles of hairspray?); but one thing is for certain: The artist is definitely one to watch – and not just because she just won the CMA award for Song of the Year. Musgraves is totally the kind of girl I could be best friends with. After all, she did reference Mean Girls on the red carpet when she said: “I love big hair — it’s full of secrets.” So I rolled up my sleeves to learn more about my latest country girl crush (sorry T. Swift — she is a self-professed pop singer now after all) and after reading this, I’m betting she’ll be yours too.

1. She performed commando next to Loretta Lynn. “Right before I sang, my panties totally came off,” Musgraves told USA Today. “They were stuck on. And then they weren’t. I had to rip them off and throw them somewhere. If you see them, they’re mine.” Her time between winning Song of the Year and curtain call was slim, so she opted out of wearing panties under her nude-panel, sequined dress. Win.

2. Love and sex inspire her lyrics. Musgrave was advised not to sing “Follow Your Arrow,” the ballad that won Song of the Year on Wednesday, way back when because of it’s racy lyrics:

If you save yourself for marriage, you’re a bore/If you don’t save yourself for marriage you’re a horr-ible person/So make lots of noise/Kiss lots of boys/Or kiss lots of girls/If that’s something you’re into/And if the straight and narrow gets a little too straight/Roll up a joint, or don’t/And follow your arrow wherever it points.

Good thing she did!

3. She can’t even. We can’t even that she can’t even. Literally. We can’t. She couldn’t even at the Grammys (where she won Best Country Album against Taylor Swift) or in an interview with Robin Roberts. But she actually totally can!

4. Her frown is famous. Musgraves’ grimace was caught on camera after fellow nominee Miranda Lambert took home the trophy for Female Vocalist of the Year in 2013. The then 25-year-old did win New Artist of the Year, but clearly that didn’t suffice. Or was it just an upside-down smile?

5. She celebrated her 26th birthday at a roller skate rink. Not only can Musgrave sing, but she can also tear it up wearing wheelies. She was gifted pink and white ones.

6. She loves Ethiopian food. She’s cultured and loves a good meal. Talk about a double-whammy.

7. Katy Perry is one of her big supporters. Aside from being a guest at Musgraves’ birthday party, and inviting the country singer to go open for her Prismatic World Tour that ended in October, Perry first Tweeted about Musgraves’ “Merry Go Round” in 2012, gushing that it was “one the most uniquely honest written songs of 2012.”

8. She was an “emo” teen. “I chopped off my long pretty hair and couldn’t wear a cowboy hat, and I started writing really emo stuff; that was kind of a hard time, but I didn’t want to be a novelty,” Musgraves told the NY Times.

9. Her dog is named Pearl. And Pearl wears pearl necklaces. Need I say more?

10. She worked as a singing Cinderella. After graduating from high school, Musgraves worked at children’s birthday parties as a singing Cinderella…until she was asked to dress as a French maid for an adult event.
