Young fan with 3-D printed hand to toss out first pitch at World Series

Remember 7-year-old Hailey Dawson? How could you forget. The young baseball fan made waves in early September after a video of her expressing her desire to throw out a first pitch at every major-league stadium went viral.

Dawson was born without three fingers on her right hand, but taught herself to grip and throw a baseball with a 3-D printed hand.

After her video went out, a number of teams contacted her about throwing out a first pitch at their parks. Now, Major League Baseball has decided to take that to another level.

The league has invited Dawson to throw out the first pitch before Game 4 of the 2017 World Series. Dawson’s mom, Yong, said she cried upon hearing her daughter was invited to throw out the pitch, according to ABC News.

An executive with MLB said the league was inspired by her story:

“Hailey’s inspirational story captured our attention and our teams have overwhelmingly embraced her goal to throw a first pitch at every MLB ballpark,” Tony Petitti, MLB Chief Operating Officer, told ABC News. “We are very happy that Hailey will begin her quest by throwing the ceremonial first pitch at Game 4 of the World Series. We’re all looking forward to meeting her and the Dawson Family at the Fall Classic.”

One of baseball’s best stories of the season somehow found a way to get even more inspiring. While throwing out the first pitch at the World Series is quite the accomplishment, we’re going to guess Hailey isn’t going to stop there. She’ll still have plenty of parks on her list after she crosses that one off.
