Report: Wichita State, Gregg Marshall to part ways after disturbing abuse, assault allegations
Wichita State and coach Gregg Marshall are expected to part ways this week after the school launched an investigation into his conduct following disturbing allegations from several of his former players, according to Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

Marshall has been with the program since 2007, and compiled a 331-121 record there while leading the Shockers to seven NCAA tournaments and a Final Four run in 2013. The 57-year-old, who is Wichita State’s all-time winningest coach, earned $3.5 million last season.
Former players make disturbing allegations against Marshall
Several of Marshall’s former players came forward last month and alleged that the coach was both physically and verbally abusive.
Marshall was accused of punching a player multiple times at Wichita State, putting his hands around a staff member’s neck and even trying to punch another Shocker’s student-athlete through his car window during a road rage incident in a parking lot. He also allegedly body-shamed another former player during a practice by grabbing his stomach.
He also allegedly taunted a Native American player while making “Indian howling noises” and telling him to “get back on his horse.”
Marshall denied those allegations and said he has “never physically struck a player or colleague.”
However several of his former players from Winthrop — where he coached from 1998-2007 — then came forward with similar allegations. Former players there said that Marshall mocked a player’s mental health, repeatedly put his hands on players and even once threatened to send a player “back to Africa.”
Wichita State launched an investigation into Marshall’s conduct and, according to Goodman, is now preparing to part ways with him.
Though the Shockers’ full schedule hasn’t been released yet due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they are set to open their season on Nov. 25 against Utah State.
