Watch the Redskins 'frisk and arrest' their teammate after an interception
The NFL might not like the Washington Redskins’ interception celebration from Sunday’s game.
After cornerback Kendall Fuller intercepted a pass that sealed the Redskins’ win over the San Francisco 49ers, some of Fuller’s teammates followed him and started their presumably choreographed celebration. Led by safety D.J. Swearinger, who took a bad unsportsmanlike conduct penalty earlier that helped the 49ers get back in the game, the Washington players had Fuller put his hands up, mimicked frisking him and then Swearinger put Fuller’s hands behind his back and “arrested” him.
It’s not like this celebration should really offend anyone, but it’s probably not the look the NFL wants either. That’s part of the rub with relaxing the touchdown celebration rules. There are some really creative celebrations we’ve seen already, and they have added an element of fun to the games that had been lacking for a long time. But the NFL will also not like all of them. The league already fined Odell Beckham for his celebration that mimicked a dog peeing. It will be interesting to see if they have any reaction to this celebration.
The Redskins players were just playing around when they pretended to arrest Fuller, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the NFL brings down some real punishment for it.
